For the new visitors, my name is Ashtyn! For the ones who know me, welcome back. I am a student at Texas Tech University pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Agricultural Communications with a minor in animal science. I am originally a North Texas native but I fell in love with Lubbock the minute I stepped foot onto the Texas Tech campus.
Besides being a student, I play many different roles. I am an agriculturalist, sister, freelance photographer and writer, true crime fanatic, music lover, and die hard Red Raider. I love to spend my free time with friends, enjoying live music, watching bad (yet so addicting) reality tv shows, and talking livestock with my dad.
Being the middle child of seven girls, I needed something of my own. I found that special something in photojournalism. While most people were getting cars and a pocketbook sized piece of plastic for their 16th birthday, I got a Canon Rebel T3. From there, my interest in visual and written communication soared. Over the years, I have gone back-and-forth on what I love more: photography or writing. It's a toughie and my mind changes on a weekly basis. The one thing that remains the same is my passion for storytelling.

My love for photography cultivated in high school photojournalism and yearbook classes. I became obsessed with cameras, even starting to collect them (I'm now up to 15 vintage cameras). No matter what I was capturing, I loved taking pictures. Now, my passion for capturing moments has taken me to Denver, Houston, all around the Hub City, and has given me many accolades. I have learned that portrait photography is where I thrive. I specifically love taking photos of my dear friend Kaelyn, who is a Western fashion blogger and influencer. See some of my favorite shots below.
Entering college, I hated writing. I didn't feel as confident in my writing abilities as I did my other skills. With the assistance of great professors, mentors, and helpful books, my passion and talent for writing has grown immensely. My newfound love for writing has led me to many expriences. Including working for a magazine, livestock show, and school district communications department. Check out some pieces while you're here!
In May 2020, I started my journey as an intern for Global Ag Network, a podcasting company. I was rejected from what felt like 100 internships. Until Delaney, founder of GAN, found something special in me. Some potential I didn't know I had. Video and audio work were forgein to me. As the weeks went on, I began to get the hang of co-hosting the Ag News Daily podcast, editing audio for podcast production and started a video project. Click on the links below to watch and listen!
