Date Information
Feb. 2016 Our paper "Sonifying Internet Security Threats" has been accepted in ACM International Conference on Human-Computer Interaction (CHI), the top conference in HCI. The "late-breaking-work" paper is based on our NSF-funded research on security usability. The authors are: Akbar Siami Namin, Rattikorn Hewett, Keith Jones, Rona Pogrund.
October 2015 The paper published by Alaa Darabseh and Akbar Namin at the International Conference of CyberWorlds (CW) received the best paper award. The title of the paper is "On Accuracy of Classification-based Keystroke Dynamics for Continuous User Authentication". The paper was published in the Biometric and Cybersecurity Session and presented in CW 2015, Gotland, Sweden.
October 2015 A conference paper accepted for publication at the International Conference in Machine Learning Application (ICMLA). The title of the paper is "Predicting Vulnerable Software Components through N-gram Analysis and Statistical Feature Selection" authord by Yulei Pang, Xiaozhen Xue, and and Akbar Namin.

August 2015 A Journal paper in the Journal of Educational Technology and Society is accepted for publication with minor revision. "Consumer Perception of Cybersecurity Risks for Internet Users Who are Visually Impaired", Authors: Fethi Inan, Akbar Siami Namin, Rona Pogrund, and Keith Jones.
July 2015 There is a postdoc fellowship position in cybersecurity area starting September 2015. The position is for one year. Please contact Dr. Namin for more information.
July 2015 Dr. Namin and his collaborator received the excellence grant from Texas Tech Alumni Association (TTAA). The title of the project is "Texas Tech University Virtual Life," with a total budget of $10,000. The project is for one year.
July 2015 Dr. Namin (PI) and his collaborators received a good news from the NSF program director regarding recommending one of their proposals for funding. The project is titled "CyberCorps: Building Capacity in cyber Security through Competition-based Training and Enhancing Defending Skill Sets," is for two years. The total budget is $348,732.00.
June 2015 Dr. Namin was elected as a member of the Grievance Committee of the College of Engineering at Texas Tech University.
June 2015 Alaa Darabseh a PhD student successfuly defended his Ph.D. Dissertation. Alaa's thesis was on "Keystroke Dynamics for Active User Authentications." Congratulations Alaa.
May 2015 Dr. Namin is tenured and promoted to Associate Professor (Effective September 2015).

May 2015 A poster paper got accepted. Sara Sartoli and Akbar Siami Namin, Reasoning based on Imperfect Context Data in Adaptive Security, in International Conference on Software Engineering (ICSE), Firenze, Italy, 2015.
May 2015 Dr. Namin was appointed as the chair for faculty search committee for the2015-2016 academic year. Dr. Namin and the faculty search committee will be responsible for hiring four new faculty in the area of Big Data. Software Engineering, and Computer Science in general. Two out of four positions will be for Big Data initiative and the remaining two will be for senior/junior positions in Software engineering, Cybersecurity, and Computer Science.
May 2015 Dr. Namin received an invitation to an NSF panel for reviewing proposals.

January 2015 Dr. Namin (PI) and his collaborators received a new NSF grant. The funded project is titled "I-Corps: Developing Instructional Technology in Cybersecurity," is deigned for six months. The total budget is $50,000.

September 2013 Dr. Namin (Co-PI) and his collaborators recieved funding from Texas Tech University. The fund is part of the cybersecurity initiative to hire a postdoc for one year. The fund will be used to develop interdisciplinary projects with the involved departments. The total budget is close to $200,000.
September 2013 Dr. Namin (Co-PI) and his collaborators recieved funding from Texas Tech University. The fund is part of the Big Data initiative. The total budget $1.8M. Through this project two new assistant professor positions will be created in the Department of Computer Science.
May 2013 Dr. Namin (PI) and his collaborators recieved an NSF grant. The funded project titled "EAGER: Secure and Trustworthy Computing (SaTC): Usability of Security features," is designed for 18 months. An additional of $16,000.00 also was supplemented for recruting undergraduate students working on this project.

2012 Dr. Namin received recognition as a "most Influential Professor" in 2012 by honor students in Computer Science undergraduate program. Dr. Namin received funding from ACM and NSF to attend the Symposium on Software Engineering Education (SEES) in conjunction with FSE 2012 to be held in Cary, NC, USA
2012 Dr. Namin and Dr. Hewett received an NSF grant titled were awarded $266,648 by the National Science Foundation. The title of the proposal was "SFS: Capacity Building: Collaborative Project: Cyber-security Education for Community College Faculty in Texas."

July 2011 Abdullah Muquim, a Master’s student joins the AVESTA group.
June 2011 Omary Rosas, Pankaj Sharma, Vinitha Subburaj, and Akbar Siami Namin took the second place award for their work on testing and fault localizing an industrial robot application. The work was awarded at the International Conference on Software Comprehension (ICPC) the Industrial Challenge Track and the title of the problem was: "Robots never Explode." The 2011 ICPC conference was held in Kingston, Canada. Congratulations guys for your excellent work.
