Two PhD Openings Available
We are recruiting two PhD students (fully funded research assistant). The first position is in the area of swarm control of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The successful candidate is expected to work on a collaborative project about multiple UAV flight control for structural monitoring of wind turbines. The second position is in the area of control of renewable energy systems and microgrids. The successful candidate is expected to work on a collaborative project to develop a comprehensive control framework for power systems with varying levels of inverter-based resources. Candidates with excellent mathematical skills, control background, and relevant project experience are preferred. A master’s degree in ME, EE, or a related field is required although excellent candidates with a bachelor’s degree are also considered. The DISCO group successfully co-organized a five-day summer camp “Perfect Storm: Innovating and Energizing Disaster Response” for high-school students at the Science Spectrum during July 23-27, 2018. Teams of students were thrust into a disaster scenario, where they need to restore power using renewable energy and microgrids.
