Barratt grew up in South Carolina and The Netherlands. His fascination with chemical research began at Davidson College, where he spent summers doing undergraduate research in Merl Schuh's lab. Barratt entered the world of high-resolution spectroscopy in Bob Field's group at MIT and became a surface scientist in Alec Wodtke's department at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry (now the MPI for Multidisciplinary Sciences) in Göttingen, Germany. Barratt joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Texas Tech University in 2021 and is a guest group leader at the MPI for Multidisciplinary Sciences. When not in the lab, Barratt enjoys classical singing and vegan baking.

Muhammad Qasim Ali completed BS in Chemistry from Government College University Faisalabad, Pakistan (2013-2017) and M.Phil. in physical chemistry from same university (2018-2020). He researched on synthesis and characterization of a composite membrane of PEG-DA/PDMS during his MPhil. He also earned Master's in Education degree from AIOU, Pakistan (2018-2019). He has served as lecturer in chemistry in Chenab College as well as in the Educator High School and as SESE(Sci-math), in PSED, Punjab Pakistan (2018-2022). He joined Dr. Park group at Texas Tech University in 2022, where his research focuses on microwave spectroscopy.
